Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Plateau United coach said if all contestants allow the statues of NFF to dictate the pace, the squabbles that usually trail elections in the country will not occur.
He added that if the elections are conducted in the most transparent manner, the most popular candidate would emerge for the good of Nigerian football.
“I want to encourage all contestants to play by the rules. There should be no short cuts. There are the NFF and FIFA statues to guide the process. It should be strictly adhered to by everyone.
“If that is done, the right person will emerge and everybody would give him the support he needs to move Nigerian football forward,” he said.
The former coach of Plateau United went on to say that whoever would emerge as the next NFF president should find a durable solution to the problem of funding for Nigeria Premier League.
He said the present arrangement whereby clubs depend on government is not the best as he maintained that the league is being denied of talented players.
“I want to advise the next NFF president to look into the issue of the league. He should think of how to commercialise it. The over dependence of the clubs on government is not the best.
“Most parents now discourage their children from playing football because they have seen that it is not going to put food on their tables. Instead even talented football players are encouraged to go to school or learn a trade.
“If we can get it right with the league, Nigerian football will certainly make progress,” he said.
