The North East Initiative for Development (NEYIF), in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), has organized training for primary and basic schools teachers in Yobe State.
The training commenced with 200 teachers drawn from various schools in Damaturu the state capital.
Briefing journalist at the training session, the NEYIF Acting Executive Director, Adamu Mohammmed, said the essence of the training was to complement the state government’s effort in reviving the education sector.
He said the training tagged “Enhancing teachers skills for effective teaching and learning” would improve the capacity and skills of the teachers in engaging students towards learning in the class room.
Also speaking the Programme Coordinator of NEYIF, Usman Mohammed Gombe, said the facilitators have in the past few months underwent series of training by UNICEF and many donor agencies on education.
He said the four-day training would harp on pedagogy, psycho social support, and conflict and disaster reduction management.
He said the facilitators would soon be deployed to engage teachers in all the 17 local government area of the state.
One of the participants, Mrs Agnes Omande, said the workshop was insightful as she was taught in both practical and theoretical aspect of teaching.
Another teacher, Musa Mshelia, said he never attended any training or workshop in his teaching career for over 20 years.
He maintained the workshop would improve his capacity as he found many new ideas.
