New Emir of Lafia mounts throne

The new Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Duda Bage, has mounted the royal throne of the Lafia Emirate.

The new emir yesterday left his Abuja residence in a long convoy of well wishers and royal courtiers for Lafia.

He was received in Shabu Town by many royal fathers of Nasarawa State including the chiefs of Shabu, Kwandare, Agiri, Adudu, Akawaneja, Daddare, Asakio, Uda, Eriji, Azara and many others.

Justice Sidi Dauda Bage exchanged pleasantries with the chiefs and proceeded to Lafia. He went straight to the palace mosque for his first Friday prayers at the palace before mounting the throne. He was received by many dignitaries including the kingmakers of Lafia as well as royal drummers, trumpeters, praise singers, royal guards and court jesters.

In his remarks at the official turbanning ceremony, Governor Umaru Almakura who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Silas Ali Agara, said the state government was happy with the selection process and called  on the people of Lafia and Nasarawa State to live in peace. He wished the emir long life.

In his speech, Justice Bage told people of the emirate: “We are one, we must unite to develop the emirate and I pledge to be just in my dealings with all.”

The official crowning ceremony was performed by the Sarkin Fada, one of the custodians of the palace under the orders of the senior kingmaker, the Makungiji of Lafia. King makers, traditional title holders and community leaders queued to pay allegiance and homage to the new emir.

Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, a former Justice of the Supreme Court, is the 17th Emir of Lafia.
