Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two men carrying 31 cartons of Tramadol.
The cache weighed 868kg—more than 17 bags of 50kg rice.
Officials intercepted the men in a J5 licensed QAP 316 XB at Kwande Villlage of Shendam Local Government, Plateau state.
While parading the suspects, Plateau State NDLEA commander, Ibrahim Braji said both men were on their way to Gombe for the delivery of drugs.
The NDLEA Boss also handed over counterfeit and expired drugs of about 5, 580kg seized by the command from a suspect named Jude Okoye Okeke popularly known as Zuma to National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for necessary action to be taking.
He said, “Today we are handing over of the expired drugs seized from Zuma to NAFDAC who are responsible for prosecution of those that had to do with licit drugs, because the licit drugs are outside the jurisdiction of NDLEA. NDLEA has only responsible for illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana and psychotropic substances.”
Last week the NDLEA arrested for the fourth time a notorious drug dealer Jude Okoye with psychotropic and fake drugs from his various warehouses across Jos Metropolis in Plateau State.
Daily Trust gathered that the suspect had been arrested by law enforcement agents three times before and had either been fined or released on bail.
The suspect was granted bail on health grounds after his third arrest last year.
One of the suspects, Mas’udu Isyaka who was the driver of the J5 intercepted by the law enforcement agency said, the drugs were to go from Onitsha to Gombe, and after their delivery in Shendam, Plateau the NDLEA operatives nabbed them.
“I thought it was drugs that we used to deliver across the country. I don’t know such drugs were against the law,” he said
