N2.5m fraud case against fake Customs officer continues Aug 19

Hearing will continue on August 19, 2019 before an Igbosere magistrate court, Lagos, in an impersonation and fraud case against a 31-year-old man, Chigbu Chizaiam.

Chizaiam was accused of allegedly presenting himself as an officer of the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) and obtaining N2.5 million by false pretence.

Police prosecutor Adegbia Tope alleged that the accused person and others still at large conspired sometime in 2017 at Jakande Gate, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, to obtain money from Mrs Babatunde Adebimpe by false pretence.

Tope further alleged that the accused person, not being an official of the NCS but with the intent that he may be taken as such, presented himself as a Customs officer, contrary to Section 377 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The prosecutor also alleged that the accused person, with intent to defraud, obtained N2.5m from Mrs Adebimpe by falsely pretending he would supply her with some fabric materials, which he knew was false.

Chizaiam pleaded not guilty to the three-count criminal charge levelled against him.

Magistrate Mrs O. O. Otitoloju admitted him to N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
