A group, Niger Delta Mandate Union, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to query and sack the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, for contesting the gubernatorial election in Cross River State without resigning his appointment as stipulated by the constitution.
The group’s leader, Ben Onyemaechi, in a statement yesterday, called on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to act on the issue. He said his group would sue the minister if the government failed to remove him. “Dr Kayode Fayemi who is the governor of Ekiti State among many others in the past resigned their appointments before standing for elections,” said.
Repeated calls yesterday by one of our correspondents to the minister’s phone line for his reaction were not answered.
The chairman and the secretary of the minister’s faction of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Etim John and Francis Ekpenyong respectively also did not answer phone calls made to them.
