Medile: Where Kannywood stars reside

In the boom of the industry, one neighbourhood has risen to prominence as a preferred residential area for Kannywood celebrities. And that place is known as Medile Quarters.
Kannywood first took off at Sabon Titi of Mandawari Quarters in Kano Municipal local government area where most of the film studios had their offices. But as the industry grew, the studios grew and decided to find a more suitable location. And like birds arriving the roost, they gradually settled around Zoo Road.
The areas around Zoo Road soon became appealing as a residential area for the celebrities and it didn’t take long for Medile Quarters in Kumbotso local government area to be the preferred residential location.
Now several Kannywood stars live there and those that don’t are often spotted in the neighborhood, paying visits to their friends and colleagues.
“It is true that, the sight of Hausa movie artistes around this area is common. This is because Medile houses few of the well-known and their colleagues are in constant touch with them,” Malam Ibrahim Idris, who has lived in the area for quite some time, said.
This is something another resident, Ahmadu Haruna confirms. Speaking to Daily Trust Saturday, Malam Haruna said: “Artistes like, Ali Nuhu, Ali Jita, Zainab Idris, Umar Kanu and a few others live in the neighbourhood, although other residents claim to be related to the stars.”
But clearly not all the celebrities are good neighbours as Haruna said. Residents had to lodge a complaint about the conduct of an actress who turned the neihgbourhood on its head when she moved in and set up her rented apartment as a sort of a club.
 “The day she moved in marked the end of peace in our area as different shades of people come and go at will, we became insecure and afraid of the unknown,” Haruna said. “Her act necessitated the forming of a committee to find a more lawful way to address the issue and that was when we invited the ward head to wade in and save the situation.”
However, Daily Trust Saturday gathered that a complaint regarding the actress’ conduct was lodged at the Hisbah office where officials of the board asked the lady to vacate the apartment as the community members requested and that she should be refunded her rent.
Hamza said: “As a community leader, I have to take issues in accordance to the laid down law. The security of my people is my priority; the community committee has asked many people to vacate their apartments in the area, as members were not comfortable with their acts.”
