Former Senate President David Mark’s daughter, Mrs. Blessing Onuh, has announced her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what she described as ‘severe fraud and manipulations’ that took place during the party’s primary elections in Benue State.
Onuh, who was a former Secretary for FCT Social Development Secretariat, had during the PDP primaries contested for the position of member, House of Representatives for Otukpo/Ohimini federal constituency.
Her exit from the opposition party was contained in a press statement issued yesterday by her campaign organisation in Otukpo and signed by its coordinator, Dr Vincent Odey.
According to the statement, “the former FCTA scribe can no longer continue to stay in a party which does not believe in the principles that define democracy and where few men easily upturn the decisions of the majority for their personal interest.
“A situation in which a delegate list was used to conduct governorship primaries that produced Samuel Ortom as governorship flag bearer and same list was fraudulently changed few days later just because the delegates won’t vote for a preferred senatorial candidate is the height of political manipulation and subversion of the will of the people,” it said.
The statement also revealed that Onuh is still consulting with key political actors, royal fathers, youth groups, women forums, elders and other stakeholders form Benue South senatorial district before she will disclose her next line of action.
