How would you describe the effects of the two recent bomb blasts in your community on the residents?
On the day of the first bomb blast, I was still lying down on the bed sleeping when suddenly I heard a loud noise and then particles and glasses began pouring into my house, there was a massive impact, which shook the entire Nyanya and its environs.
I came out and saw thick smoke everywhere, I asked my children and they said there was a bomb blast. The second one was in the evening; I was in my room when it happened too. I came out to be told there was another bomb blast.
I cannot say everything is fine here since those bomb blasts. While the government should be commended for trying to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act, humanly speaking, people here are afraid, and now living in fear.
The economic and social life of Nyanya has been affected. Since the bombing incidence, the popular Nyanya market has been scanty unlike before when it used to be filled with people from far and near. We used to have many business activities going on in the market on daily basis until now.
In what ways do you think government can specifically address the situation?
We will like the government to improve on the security situation in the community. We can see that government has taken steps in deploying security personnel to the community. There has been traffic jam here and there because of the presence of the security personnel, but it is good they are here because without security no activity can take place.
We are appealing to those residing within Nyanya here to bear with the situation because as soon as everything improves, whatever little challenges they are facing will end.
How would you assess the provision of basic amenities by the government in the community?
Government has tried but we still need more facilities. For example, we have only one General Hospital here and people from Mararaba and many other places flood there for treatment. We also have only one senior secondary school which is inadequate. Nyanya has a teeming population because it is a gateway to the centre of Abuja. So how can one senior secondary school cater for the number of children being churned out of the private and public primary schools in the community?
We do not have adequate water facilities. Most of us here rely on borehole. Even electricity supply, while it has improved a bit compared to two months ago, there is need for improvement. We need more transformers in the community.
