An Osun State high court in Osogbo has sentenced a man to death by hanging after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.

The sentencing came few days after five men were sentenced to death by hanging by another court in the state.

The convict, Sunday Palms, was first arraigned on December 8, 2014 on one count charge of murder.

The prosecution team from the Ministry Justice led by the Solicitor General for the State, Mr. Dapo Adeniji, called three witnesses and tendered several statements which were later admitted in evidence as exhibits.

Adeniji told the court that on August 20, 2006, one Isiaka Rafiu left home for his daily job as a commercial motorcycle rider but he did not return home.

He said the corpse of the motorcycle rider was later found some days later on a footpath and it was obvious he had been in a fight with someone before he was over powered and killed.

Adeniji said Palms eventually confessed that he killed the okada rider.

In the said confessional statement, Palms was quoted to have said, “I saw the boy (the deceased) ridding okada. I stopped him to carry me to the farm along Gbogban road, Ikire.

“On getting to the farm, I asked him to stop, before leaving my house I carried a knife and kept inside a polybag; later I fell him down and I brought my knife and cut his neck after I saw him dead, I left him and went away with his motorcycle.”

In his ruling, yesterday, Justice Adepele Ojo found Palms guilty of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging.
