Man remanded over sex with 12-yr-old girl

A 48-year-old man, Kenneth Nwachukwu, was on Friday remanded in prison custody by an Ogba chief magistrate’s court for allegedly attempting to have carnal knowledge of a 12-year-old girl.

The police said that Nwachukwu had lured his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter into his office located at Durodola Street, Command, Ipaja, Lagos, allegedly with the intention of having sex with her.

The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, said the accused then began fiddling with the victim’s breasts and other parts of her body and attempted to remove her pants, compelling her to raise an alarm as she forced the door open and ran out of the office. She later reported her encounter to her parents.

John said, “The matter was reported at the Ipaja police division, prompting the police to arrest the accused. The case was later transferred to the Gender Section at the state command headquarters. During interrogation, the married man admitted that he touched parts of the victim’s body but with her consent. He said that the victim did not resist it for the period it lasted. But the victim debunked his claim when she was brought to confront the accused. She told the police that he sexually molested her.”

He added that the police found the accused culpable and charged him before the court with indecent assault.

The court did not take Nwachukwu’s plea. The presiding magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, ordered he should be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to send a duplicate copy of the file to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.

The matter was adjourned till September 24, 2018.
