A man identified as Oluseyi yesterday jumped into the lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge in Lagos. A Closed Circuit Camera (CCTV) footage shows the man taking off his shoes and clothes before jumping off the bridge. The footage also shows him standing on top of the bridge watching passersby before climbing the rail and plunging into the water.
Rescuers from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Waterways Authority, Marine Police, Lagos State Ambulance Services and police from Maroko Division were looking for his body at press time yesterday.
The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. AdesinaTiamiyu, said the family of the man had been contacted. He said his identity was extracted from a document found in clothes he left behind. He added that the agency received a distress call from the LCC officials and went into action.
“The footage shows where he suddenly pulled off his clothes and shoe while noticing there was no one around him and jumped into the lagoon,” he said.
Adesina Tiamiyu said it would be inappropriate to release the full identity of the man. He disclosed that all items found on him had been handed over to the police from Maroko Division for investigation.
