The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, convicted the accused after pleading guilty to offences of criminal trespass and theft, contrary to Sections 348 and 387 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Sergeant Ibrahim Sa’idu, had told the court that the accused was arrested on August 12 and brought to the Apo police station by one Mr. Kayode Adetokunbo, a security guard attached to an estate in Abuja.
The police prosecutor informed the court that the accused stole a car tyre belonging to one Mohammed Abdullahi and that the said tyre was recovered from him during police investigation.
When the two-count charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, while the prosecutor asked the court to try him summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
