A man who scouts for customers at a local Bureau de Change, accused of recruiting criminals to steal huge amounts of money from customers, was recently arrested by police detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos command.
The suspect, identified as Saheed Amao, was arrested along with a member of his gang for attempting to rob some Bureau de Change operators at Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
However, four members of the gang were allegedly killed in a shootout with the police.
Saheed, 32, known as Argentina in the underworld circle, has been on the police wanted list for allegedly robbing some customers of huge sums of money.
The two robbers are said to be members of a notorious armed gang that specialised in robbing financial institutions.
It was gathered that the police team, which was acting on a tip-off, cornered the gang in front of Rodeo Shopping Mall opposite Airport Hotel.
“Two of the suspects escaped with bullet wounds while another who ran into the hotel was arrested by the pool, where he was hiding,” the source added.
In his confessional statement, Amao, alias Argentina, said they followed one of their targets to the area around Airport Hotel.
