A former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has denied having interest in running for a Senate seat in 2019.
Sen. Makarfi contested with 11 others for the PDP presidential ticket but lost to a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
However, there have been reports to the effect that he is planning to contest for a senatorial seat in the 2019 elections.
The former governor, in a statement by his media consultant, Mukhtar Sirajo, said he did not have such ambition and that “nothing can be further from the truth.”
Sirajo said Sen Makarfi wished to make it clear that he had no such plan as he did not participate in any primary for a senatorial ticket.
“His position is that, in accordance with democratic norms, all winners should, as of right, be allowed to fly the party’s flag for the respective primaries they won.
“He (Makarfi) believes that other people should be encouraged and given the chance to also contribute to the political process. This way, we will continue to widen the democratic space, as well as deepen the process.”
