Lobi Stars have displaced Plateau United as the Nigeria Professional Football League leaders following a 1-0 victory over visiting MFM after the conclusion of the Match Day 14 clashes.
Plateau United who at the early stages of the league seemed untouchable as they were securing victories home and away till the Jos based club suffered its first loss to Heartland in December. It was a 1-0 loss.
With two more losses to Abia Warriors and Katsina United, a supposed insurmountable lead was cut and were level on the same points with Lobi Stars who had constantly been on their heels and had lost two matches.
Plateau Utd in their own game played out a goalless draw with Akwa United.
Meanwhile, Chukwudi Nwakdu’s lone strike in the 10th minute was all that was needed in Makurdi for Lobi Stars to secure the victor over MFM.
In the 12th minute, Nnamdi Mejuobi had a chance to draw level for MFM after receiving a lovely pass from Dennis Obasi but his weak shot couldn’t beat Faith James.
The Olukoya Boys put everything into the game with fine display but were unable to put the ball into the net.
Other results from other matches recorded Dakkada FC defeating Rivers Utd 2-1 while Heartland secured a 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors.
IfeanyiUbah secured a 3-1 victory over visiting Warri Wolves while Jigawa Golden Stars battled hard to a 3-2 victory over Adamawa Utd. Wikki Tourist failed to beat Sunshine Stars as they lost 2-1 at home.
With these results, Lobi Stars top the table with 27 points from 13 games while Plateau Utd are second with 25 points from 14 games. Rivers Utd are third with 24 points from 14 games.
The bottom three is occupied by Enugu Rangers who have 9 points from 10 games while Adamawa Utd are 19th with 10 points from 14 games. Nasarawa Utd are placed 18th with 10 points from 13 games.
