Leakage blockage: FG introduces e-procurement

The Federal Government has introduced a price checker portal and an e-procurement to check sharp practices in the procurement of non-customised goods in MDAs.

This was disclosed by the Head of the Efficiency Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Ojonimi Imaji, during a two-day sensitisation programme on the price checker and e-procurement organised for financial officers from the North West held in Kano.

Mr. Imaji said the portal would not only ensure transparency in procurement, but also eliminate the need for physical market survey and save time and cost. He said the sensitisation was to allow for replication of the scheme in all public institutions in the 36 states and the FCT.

He further, revealed that a template had been developed for replication with the sole aim of promoting accountability.

“It will eliminate wastage and leakage and promote transparency and accountability in government spending. The mechanism would also institutionalise standards and uniformity in public procurement,” he said.

In his remarks, Kano State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Aminu Mukhtar Dan’amu, said the sensitisation would benefit the nation’s public service, adding that the state government would ensure that all the needed support to make the scheme work was given.
