Lagos state governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode has said with a buoyant private-sector led economy, qualitative physical infrastructure, formidable legal and regulatory institutions as well as enviable human capital, comprising 60 per cent labour force out of the population of over 22 million, Lagos is discerning investors’ delight.
Speaking during the state’s special day at the just concluded Lagos International Trade Fair, the governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello stated that apart from improving the quality of lives and living standard of people, the state’s infrastructure overhaul over the past two years is aimed at enhacing business prosperity and accelerating industrial revitalization.
“Our efforts at encouraging market-based development and providing a positive business environment have been yielding buoyant fruits with steady increase in our gross domestic product, especially with significant contributions of the non-oil sector. Our success is largely attributable to our innovative policies of facilitating access to credits, especially for our teeming small businesses through direct disbursements by the Lagos state employment Trust Fund and collaborations with other public and private finance providers,” he said
Ambode said the state has focused on provision of market access for MSME and creation of economic zones including small scale industrial estates as well as industrial parks and clusters adding that the state has encouraged skilled labour development and establishment of partnerships for enterprenurship development, technology and innovation among the youth and women populace.
“These innovative policies have contributed to Lagos state’s ability to account for Nigeria’s movement by 24 steps higher from 159 to 145, in the World Bank’s Global Doing Business Ranking 2018 report. This is why I’m inviting you, local and international business community to join the state’s train in Nigeria’s economic recovery drive,” he said
