Amidst rising concerns over the campaign trajectory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, the party chairman, Dr. Ademola Dominic, said there is no rift between the party and its candidate.
Daily Trust reports that there had been concerns among stakeholders and members of the party that the governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, had been running a “solo campaign” since he emerged as candidate.
Sources said at most of his gatherings and interactions with people, members of the state working committee and other party leaders were always conspicuously absent.
It would be recalled also that during a press conference to formally kick-start his campaign, many party leaders were absent.
But the state chairman in an interview with Daily Trust, yesterday, dismissed insinuations that all was not well with the party leadership and the governorship candidate.
He explained that while the candidate had been going about meeting all segments of Lagosians to solicit for votes, the party on its part had been strategising, saying, “on the contrary we are very confident of victory.”
Dominic added, “that the governorship candidate has been going about campaigning without the presence of the chairman, I don’t think anything is wrong. There is nothing amiss between us.
“He is the candidate. He has to sell himself and he is going about doing that. I don’t see anything wrong with it and the party is also doing its own strategising and mobilising the grassroots and the candidate is doing his own. We are all working towards the same goal. So there is no rift,” he said.
The chairman disclosed that the party would hold a general assembly “in a few days” to deepen the campaign machineries and bring on board the party structures and different groups in the party.
