Places affected most by the early flood include Millionaires Quarters and parts of Tudun Kauri, adjoining Lafia Local Government Secretariat.
Residents and office apartment owners of these areas have had to relocate, to allow the storm waters dry up before they would return, Daily Trust gathered from some of the affected residents.
At the Immigration Service office behind the LGC secretariat, which has been hit by flood several times, the passport office was recently submerged, leaving data capturing equipment as well as vital documents there damaged.
“It happened at the weekend. We resumed on a Monday to discover our office was submerged. Our equipment were damaged”, said an officer.
At the Millionaires Quarters, along Jos road, many residents have been forced out of their apartments between July and this month because parts of the area have been swamped.
“These days, there are times you go out for work, only to return and meet your children trapped in the house”, said a resident who expressed worry that “government is not even bothered that we are facing this hardship.”
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Abdullahi Idris confirmed that government was aware of the development, and added that “the governor is worried himself, and soon, we are moving in.”
He said the government’s provision of standard drainages to accompany the provision of asphalt roads within the metropolis and environs has already stopped flooding in other areas of the state capital and expressed optimism that the remaining areas will get the same relief when these provisions reach them.
