President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the reappointment of Mr. Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Malam Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President.
The reappointment came 38 days after the president was sworn in for a second term. The delay in the announcement of the reappointment created uproar in the polity.
Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said both appointments took effect from May 29, 2019 when the president was sworn in.
There were protests in Abuja on June 24, calling for the sack of the chief of staff, but the presidency said the protest was sponsored. The following day, another group of protesters marched to the villa supporting Kyari.
Daily Trust reports that while Kyari was first appointed on August 27, 2015, Mustapha became the SGF on October 30, 2017 when his predecessor, Babachir David Lawal, was sacked following the now-infamous grass cutting scandal.
The presidency is yet to make announcement on the reappointment or otherwise of the two presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu.
