The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday said it will legislate against activities of ritual killings and exhumation of corpses it has considered rampant in various parts of the state.
The Speaker of the House, Dr Ali Ahmad, disclosed this in his office while receiving members of a body, the Concerned Muslims of Kwara, led by Professor Lanre Badmus, who paid him a courtesy call.
Ahmad, who expressed disaffection on what he described as the high rate at which some individuals were engaging in activities such as illegal dealing in human parts, exhumation of corpses and ritual killings, said the legislation would curb the acts.
The speaker said the lawmakers would work with organisations and individuals towards restoring the sanctity of the ancient city of Ilorin.
Lamenting that the issue was becoming a daily occurrence and increasingly embarrassing to every responsible indigene and resident of the state, Ahmad pledged to rally his colleagues towards ensuring that ill acts were stamped out of Ilorin and Kwara State at large.
“It is very worrisome that some few elements could be tarnishing the good image of Ilorin by rubbishing the founding fathers’ work with their dastardly acts”, the speaker said.
The leader of the delegation, who is a lecturer in the Department of lslamic Studies, University of llorin, had earlier decried the high rate of ritual killings and exhumation of corpses in the state.
Badmus disclosed that the group was working on presenting a bill to the House to ensure that the negative tendencies were curbed in llorin and other parts of the state.
He praised what he called the foresight of the House in passing a resolution against nude dances in hotels in all parts of the state.
