A coalition of persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the auspices of the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has said that Saturday’s governorship and senatorial by-election in Kogi State was a set back to the gains earlier recorded for PWDs.
This is contained in the preliminary statement on the election signed by the CDD Executive Director, Mr. David O Anyaele.
According to him, on the ballot materials, in the over 120 polling units (PUs) visited, only two PUs were sighted with magnifying glasses, such that even within Lokoja, the state capital, materials printed in bold, instructional material in Braille or Braille Ballot guide were limited in the field as more than 80 percent of PUs visited had none of the materials.
He said that was at the disadvantage of the blind, deaf and persons with albinism and also put a question mark on the much talked about provisions for voters with disabilities.
