Residents of Apamsede community in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, have called on the state government, corporate organisations and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid in the provision of basic social amenities.
The representative of the community, Comrade Salawu Otaru said Apamsede, a fast developing village and farm centre located after Chari-Maigumeri Barracks before Zango in Adavi Local Government Area, has not been connected to electricity.
North Central Trust reports that the community is located a few kilometers from Lokoja, the state capital.
He also lamented that the people depend on a stream as their water source, which dries up during the dry season.
He said residents, mostly women and children, trek a long distance before they could access the stream.
He also noted that apart from the problem of water and electricity, the community is hardly accessible because its only road is in deplorable condition.
“Having written several times to the state government, through the ministry of rural development since 2017, we wish to once again use this medium to humbly plead with the state government to come to our aid.
“Our community has been in perpetual darkness and lacks access roads and potable water. The absence of these basic amenities has cut us off from the rest of the world,” he lamented.
Another resident, Malam Aliyu Amoka said the community has been maintaining the access road through self-help, adding that the condition of the road always worsened during the rainy season as flood washes parts of it.
“What we are asking is for the road to be tarred so that our people can easily access markets within the state capital with their agriculture products.
“It also imperative that being so close to the state capital, a thriving community like Apamsede, which also hosts some low cadre civil servants with the state government employment, should enjoy electricity. So it’s our appeal that government appreciates our plights and importance and provide basic amenities to us,” he noted.
