KEDCO urges TCN to fix Kano burnt 60MVA transformer

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has called on the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to speed up the repair of a 60MVA transformer that was gutted by fire at the Dan Agundi Transmission

Station in Kano in December last year.

A statement issued by KEDCO’s spokesman, Mohammed Kandi, said the ugly incident had led to severe load-shedding at some ‘highbrow’ areas which were KEDCO’s cash cow.

Kandi said, “The company is losing huge revenue as a result of the breakdown of the 60MVA transformer. Lack of stable electricity supply to the affected areas is crippling economic activities in the major central business area within the city of Kano.

“The affected areas include Nasarawa GRA, Tarauni, Badawa and Ibrahim Taiwo Road where a cluster of businesses are located. These areas that earlier enjoyed almost 24 hours of power supply have now been subjected to massive load-shedding due to the unfortunate fire incident that affected the 60MVA transformer.”
