The People’s Democratic Party in Katsina says plans proposed by Gov Aminu Masari to constitute a caretaker committee for the 34 council areas are illegal and unconstitutional.
The party chairman Salisu Majigiri issued a statement in Katsina saying despite the party’s reservations about the judgement of court of appeal in Kaduna delivered last Friday, the PDP sees it as a welcome development the aspect that stated that Governor Masari cannot set up caretaker committee after dissolving the elected LGA’s councils.
“Justice Obientobara Daniel-Kalio has affirmed the decision of the Supreme Court that constituting caretaker committees by the state governor is illegal,” he said.
He said Masari should take note of the decision of the court, noting, “This is a constitutional democracy where the rule of law must be kept sacrosanct.”
While urging PDP members to remain calm and have faith in the judiciary, Majigiri added that the party is appealing the ruling of the appeal court that ruled on the power of governor Masari to dissolve the LGA’S as truth shall prevail.
