As the fight against the deadly coronavirus continues across the globe, the Katsina State Football Association has promised to continue to support efforts being made by the federal government of Nigeria to contain and eradicate the killer virus.
The Football Association after its board meeting issued a press statement to reiterate total commitment to the fight against COVID-19 just as it acknowledged that government cannot fight the war alone.
The Chairman of the football association, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi who spoke to Daily Trust in addition to the statement said “Football is the best tool to use in further enlightening youths in Katsina state and Nigeria in general about the dangers posed by the virus.”
He also stressed that there is the need for Nigerians to abide by all safety measures put in place by the federal government to effectively curb the scourge of a virus that is killing on daily basis the young and the old in the country.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for his determination at curbing the spread of this virus.
“He has been dogged and resolute in his resolve to fight this pandemic and that explains why over 14,000 Nigerians have overcome the virus,” he said.
Furthermore, Kurfi said the board meeting discussed ways of moving football forward in Katsina State after COVID-19 without depending on the state government.
“We decided that immediately after COVID-19, we would embark on grassroots football development. This would be done by ensuring the youths have enough tournaments to play.
“We shall also strive to be truly independent of the state government in terms of funding. We shall source for our own sponsors.
“The football association under me won’t go about cap in hand. We would do our best to reduce the pressure that is on state resources,” he assured.
