Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Noor Dubai Foundation on a comprehensive eye care programme in the state.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mannir Yakubu, at the MoU signing in Abuja, said it marked a milestone in the delivery of eye care services to the people of Katsina.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Press Affairs, Ibrahim Musa, in a statement yesterday, said the partnership was to reduce the burden of blindness and visual impairment.
The deputy governor described the MoU as a collaborative effort to attain universal eye healthcare in the state by 2020.
He said based on studies conducted in the state, there was an estimated blindness burden of 45,000, visual impairment of 95,000 and 10,000 irreversible blindness.
