Kaave kicks against foreign coach for Eagles

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Chairman of the once dreaded BCC Lions FC of Gboko said the time left for the commencement of the 2014 World Cup is too short for such an experiment.
Kaave maintained that there is no time for a foreign Technical Adviser to build the necessary synergy with the other members of the coaching crew headed by Stephen Keshi to produce the required result at the World Cup.
Kaave therefore said if the Super Eagles are to avoid disaster at the 2014 World Cup, those clamouring for the appointment of an expatriate coach so late in the day should have a rethink.
He said “I am surprised that with four months to the 2014 Mundial, some people are still talking about appointment of a foreign Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles.
“In my candid opinion, this is uncalled for. There is no time for such experiment unless we want to have another feel of the bitter pill that was forced down our throats during France ‘98 and Korea- Japan 2002.
“I remember very well that at the dying minutes, Frenchman Phillipe Troussier was brought in to lead Eagles to France 98 and we all know how the team fared. It was another disappointing outing in 2002 when Chief Onigbinde led Eagles to Korea- Japan World Cup”.
In a related development, Kaave said he is looking forward to another thrilling encounter between the Super Eagles and Argentina.
He explained that matches between the two football powerhouses are usually full of suspense as nobody can confidently say what would be the outcome.
“When the national teams of these two countries play, they play each other on a nervous point. At no time has Argentina beaten Nigeria so overwhelmingly that they can say let’s write them off. At the same time, we have never beaten the Argentines in a manner that we can say they are a walkover”.
The Ambassador also said even as he is enjoying his stay in Argentina, on June 25, his heart and spirit will be with the Super Eagles for victory.
“Even though my host the Argentines have been very pleasant, very friendly and very warm, playing against the Eagles, our own national team, for those 90 minutes my sentiments would naturally swerve towards the Super Eagles.
“So it will be strange, if I simply say let the better side win like we always say. If the better side is going to win by luck, I will pray the mother luck is on the side of the Super Eagles”, he said.
