Senators on Wednesday confirmed Mr Olanikekun Olukoyede as the secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) amidst protest and rowdiness.
The confirmation, which was earlier slated for Tuesday was postponed following protest from a senator, Isah Hamma Misau (PDP, Bauchi), who argued that as a member of the committee that screened the nominee, he didn’t sign the report.
Members of the committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes headed by Sen Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu) were then mandated to meet to iron out things.
But when the matter came up again on Wednesday, Misau raised an objection, saying the committee did not meet.
He said instead Utazi sent the report to him and another member of the committee, Dino Melaye to sign.
He protested that the consideration of the nomination should be deferred until members of the committee meet.
Misau was supported by Melaye, who shouted on top of his voice, saying the right thing must be done.
Despite clarification from Utazi and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Misau stood his ground that the confirmation should not go on, unless the Senate wanted to disrespect its resolution.
But the Senate went ahead to confirm the nominee.
