Nigerians attending this year’s Hajj are now praying for a peaceful and successful conduct of the 2019 general elections in Arafat, Saudi Arabia.
The special prayer session is being organized by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Over 55,000 Nigerians are among the two million Muslim faithfuls that converged on the plains of Arafat as 2018 Hajj pilgrimage peaked on Monday.
Tagged the ‘unity prayer,’ the prayer session is being led by various Muslim clerics drawn from the six geo-political zones of the country.
The clerics are praying for the peaceful conduct of the next year’s general elections as well as divine succour for the resolution of the myriad challenges of insurgency, herders-farmers clashes, kidnappings for ransom, robust economic growth, among others.
In his opening remarks, NAHCON chairman, Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammed, said this year’s prayer session was expedient bearing in mind that Nigeria is facing an election year.
He said Arafat is a sacred place for acceptance of prayers; that is why Nigerians should intensify prayers for their leaders, their commonwealth and successful elections next year.
Some of the prominent Nigerians in attendance include the Nigerian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Justice Muhammad Dodo; the Nigerian Consul- General in Jeddah, Ambassador Muhammed Yunusa, lawmakers, among others.
