Issues before Adamawa LG elections

After losing the 2019 elections in Adamawa to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the defeated All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa State and critical stakeholders who led to the  creation of the notorious group general known as Shilla Boys among others, left the people of Adamawa State with no option than to send them out of power, decided to regroup in the name of reconciliation ahead of the forth coming local government election.

The reconciliation meeting which started in Abuja, attended by critical stakeholders of the party in the state which included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Barr. Boss Mustapha, former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Dr. Mahmud Halilu Ahmed popularly called Modi, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, among many senior stakeholders of the party was extended to Yola  with party members from 21 local governments including former Governors, Deputy Governor, Senators, and Assembly members among others.

All those who spoke at the meeting held at Lelewal Hotel Yola, such as former Minister of Defence, Alh. Abdulrahman Adamu, Alh. Dahiru Bobbo, among many big shots of the party, announced the reconciliation of various camps within the party and their decisions to put the past behind and forge ahead.

According to them, the party is now united as all the camps agreed to work together to recapture the state in 2023 starting from the forth coming local government election in the state and they vowed not to allow anybody to rig them out in the forth coming election and even constituted various committees to reposition the party and deliver All APC candidates in the election.

This renewed efforts by the defeated APC was seen by most political observers as a positive development that would further deepen democracy in the state and provide the people of Adamawa with alternative choices of their leaders at grassroots level if the reconciliation was actually true. Most people expected the party to concentrate on sorting out the problems which led to their defeat in 2019 and redeeming its battered image in the eyes of the public.

Unfortunately, the resorted to diversionary tactics and sponsoring needless protests to distract the administration from correcting the mess they created. Apart from using the suspended workers to stage a failed protest against the administration despite government commitments to address the mess created by APC led administration of former Governor Bindow Jibrilla and despite the fact that the Government of the day did set-up a Committee to look at the issues and make recommendation on the way forward, they went about planning and sponsoring some misguided youths to protest against the Administration in the state.

One of their target is to create confusion in the state, that will lead to the removal of the State Commissioner of Police who has so far, succeeded in restoring the hopes of the people of Adamawa by nipping all the security challenges in the state in the bud to the barest minimum, so as to return the state back to their dark era, where kidnappers, Shilla Boys, banditry were having a field day, unleashing terror on the people to the extent that their fears was the beginning of wisdom in Adamawa.

They are not happy with the improved security situation in the state and are hell bent on taking the state back to Egypt, neither are they happy with the unprecedented achievements recorded by the present administration in various sectors especially in the areas of infrastructural drive, education, health, empowerment among others, which is a clear departure from their one leg approach to governance, perpetuated in the last four years of their misrule which led to their defeat in the last election.

Although, they hide under the forth coming local government election in the state through fake reconciliation but obviously their main agenda is purely to redeemed their battered image and convince President Muhammadu Buhari and APC national leadership of their relevance despite the fact that most of them cannot even deliver their polling units, much less their wards or local governments not to talk of delivering the state to their failed party.

If they have forgotten, they need to be reminded that elections are not won by sponsoring protest or violence against the government but by convincing the people on what they have to offer and what they have done with the mandate given to them in the past. The truth is that the people of Adamawa State voted them out because of abysmal performance and sponsoring of attacks on innocent citizens among many issues of leadership failure, so what makes them think that the same people who voted them out will vote them again in the forth coming elections?

The people of Adamawa State are politically wise to be deceived by the very elements that brought the state to it knees, especially now that they have seen the good work of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is busy fixing the state back on track and has succeeded to change the political landscape of the state with his people centred policies and programmes which continue to endear him to the heart of the ordinary people.

Finally, APC and its critical stakeholders need to be advised to come back home and start campaigning rather than sleeping in the comfort of their houses in Abuja and resorting to blackmail or calling for the removal of the State Commissioner of Police. The State Commissioner of Police was not here when they were defeated in 2019, his removal or not would not save them from the defeat that awaits them in the forth coming local government elections because the people of the state are comfortable with the present Administration and its achievement so far.
