The group alleged that those making the call and their sponsors had an ulterior motive.
IPAC, an umbrella body of all registered political parties, said in a communiqué signed by chairmen of the constituent parties in Ado Ekiti yesterday that the country was heading for a constitutional crisis capable of aborting democracy if the election dates are tampered with.
In the communiqué signed by 21 chairmen of the various political parties, they cautioned Governor Ayodele Fayose against making reckless statements capable of igniting crisis in the country. The signatories are Mr Charles Famuseye of the Alliance For Democracy, Dr Dele Ekunola of
Social Democratic Party, Omotayo Kunle of the National Conscience Party, Prince Tunji Ogunlola of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Mr. J.A. Alokan of Hope Democratic Party, among others.
The parties cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission to reject any call for poll shift, describing it as a surreptitious way to derail the electoral process.
The communiqué added: “We urge the political elite, notable stakeholders, traditional rulers and all well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad to prevail on FG to find a lasting solution to insecurity in Nigeria. There cannot be credible elections, if Nigerians are not secured.”
IPAC also advised Governor Fayose to devote attention on how to improve the level of security in the state and the people’s well being, rather than dabbling into national politics that could denigrate his personality and the image of the state.
