Daily Trust reports that according to a 2009 statistics from the Ministry of Education, an estimated 10 million Almajiri children are found in northern Nigeria.

The figure has been attributed to the increasing rise in the number of beggars and miscreants in most  urban cities in the north.

However, in a letter addressed to the office of the Chief of Army Staff, dated 6th December, 2018 and signed by the Chairman of the NGO, Ibrahim Abdulllahi urged the government and the general public to take urgent steps to ameliorate the menace through sustainable programmes and initiatives to ensure that vulnerable members of the society do not resort to life of crime.

He assured that the initiative aims to ensure safety and security of lives and property through acquisition of various skills to make them responsible members of the society.

He added, "Badiko Aminci Multipurpose Cooperative Society (stakeholders in Almajiri Skils Acquisation and Empowerment Initiative) has in the past worked with under-privileged members of the society through provision of souls and tools for their development, poverty alleviation and crimes prevention."
