The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a by-election for the vacant Toro House of Representatives seat in Bauchi State on Nov. 17..
This was disclosed by the Bauchi State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, while speaking at an election stakeholders meeting in Bauchi, yesterday.
It could be recalled that Toro Federal Constituency seat became vacant when the member representing the constituency, Lawan Yahaya Gumau, contested and won the Bauchi South Senate seat in a by-election held on August 11, 2018.
The by-election was held following the death of Senator Ali Wakili representing Bauchi South in the Senate.
In Katsina State, INEC will also conduct the by-election for Kankia/Ingawa/Kusada Federal Constituency on Nov. 17.
The election was necessitated following the election of the former member, Ahmed Kaita, to the Senate when the Katsina North Senatorial District was declared vacant after the death of Sen. Mustapha Bukar.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Jibril Zarewa, at a stakeholders’ meeting yesterday, said the speaker of the House had since notified the commission of the vacant seat at the House.
Daily Trust reports that already, the APC in the state has settled for the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yahaya Kusada, as its candidate for the by-election. However, the PDP is expected to hold a meeting today to take a stand on the election.
