Imo North: INEC halts action on NASS seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it has put on hold all actions and proceedings regarding the inconclusive election of the Imo North (Okigwe) senatorial seat.
INEC had set up a commitee to investigate the veracity or otherwise of allegations of misconduct in the February 23 Imo North senatorial election following the inability of the commission to conclude the election after it was declared inconclusive.
However, the commission in a statement said that it was constrained to stay further action following a a suit instituted by the All Progressives Congress  (APC) candidate in the election, Senator Ben Uwajumogu.
In the statement signed by the National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee,  Mallam Mohammed Haruna, the commission said that it was in receipt of an ex parte order halting further action on the matter.
The statement read in part, “The order, issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja on 9th April, 2019 specifically ordered the commission to stay all further proceedings and actions by the respondents  (INEC) pertaining,  relating, or connected with the declaration of Imo North senatorial district election results of 23 February and March 9, 2019 pending the determination of the application for prohibition. “
The commission said that the case, which  was instituted by Uwajumogu against INEC,  a day after it set up the committee, had been adjourned to April 30, for hearing.
