Making the decision public yesterday in Minna was the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Peter Sarki who told pressmen that the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor was sequel the need to sanitize the university, saying that the institution had passed through administrative decay in the past years.
Dr Sarki said that until his appointment, Professor Kolo was the Rector of the College of Education Minna . He is expected to serve as Vice Chancellor of IBBU for a period of five years starting from January 2010.
Appointed along with the Vice Chancellor are the Registrar, Malam Sama’ila Mohammed and the university Bursar Malam Dalhatsu Suleiman who the commissioner explained would serve for the period of four years .
In a related event, the commissioner disclosed that Niger State government along with the Federal University of Technology ,Minna had concluded plans to partner the University of Belarus on staff development in the institution.
He said the moves was in line with partnership agreement reached by the state government and the university, adding that already five of its lecturers had travelled to the country undergoing different levels of academic studies.
“MoU has been signed between Niger State government and the University of Belarus in the area of staff development as currently five lecturers are in the institution to further their studies in different academic fields”, he said.
