I was paid N2,000 from ransom collected on my sister – Suspect

The suspect

A 22-year-old Ibrahim Kasim, who was arrested by police in Katsina State in connection with the kidnap of his younger sister, said he was paid N2,000 after the operation.

The police said Kasim, of Sokoto Road, Makera, Funtua LGA of Katsina State, connived with a gang of kidnappers terrorizing Katsina and Zamfara states, to abduct his 6-year-old step-sister.

It was gathered that the victim was moved to Talata Mafara, Zamfara State by her abductors where they demanded for N10million for her release.

The suspect told newsmen that his father, who is a pharmacist, later paid N200,000 for his sister’s release. He added that he was only paid N2,000 as commission from the operation by one of the gang leaders.

He said his girlfriend, one Murja, introduced him to the business.

Shedding more light, the spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah said on April 16 at about 12:00hrs, the suspect conspired with other members of his syndicate and kidnapped his 6-year-old step-sister (name withheld) of the same address to Talata Mafara LGA of Zamfara State.

The police spokesman added that, “SARS Patrol Team led by SP Andrew Alphouse swooped into action and arrested the mastermind of the kidnap incident. In the course of investigation, suspect confessed to have conspired with his girlfriend, one Murja of Zamfara State.

“He (Kasim) further stated that he was the one that organised the kidnapping, including providing the phone number of his father through which the sum of N10 million was demanded by the kidnappers.”
