The Deputy Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdulmumini Bala Fanti has disclosed that, he remained in All Progressives Congress (APC) to be with his constituents who elected him.
He made this statement while speaking Daily Trust correspondents at his residence in Bauchi.
According to him, the re-election of president Muhammadu Buhari, concern for his constituent and the overall success of the party at the polls remains a priority to him more than his personal interest.
Fanti said that, he felt betrayed by what happened during the APC primaries and had been under intense pressure to ditch the party and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
” I was elected by my constituents on the platform of the party. They are deeply angered by how I was treated by the party during the primaries and I reasoned with them. There are so many options open to me, but I cannot take a political decision without their consent.
“I have to be very resolute in my decisions and consider the majority views of my constituents. I am a loyal party member who wants to see it succeed, But I am not happy with how I was treated during the primaries,” he said.
The deputy speaker however noted that, the various reconciliation efforts put in place by the APC national headquarters prevented many aggrieved members including him from leaving the party.
“So many things happened after we were schemed out during the primaries. It would have been too late. The prompt intervention and peace efforts of the national leadership to a large extent persuaded many of us to remain in the party despite being offered tickets by other parties,” he added.
He called on people of his constituency to remain loyal to the party as the election approaches and not to allow other parties use what happened to sway their votes for the APC.
