The Sultanate Council, Sokoto, yesterday said the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, remained apolitical.
The sultanate was expressing concern about what it called
some negative publication against the sultan on certain national and state political issues.
A statement by the secretary of the council, Umar Ladan, said neither the sultan nor any member of the council belongs to any political party.
“We do not have any contestant to any elective post. The Council does not hold any ally and will not in any form interfere on political and electoral issue,” the statement said.
It said the sultan and the council believed in the rule of law, justice and fairness in all affairs.
“The council remains apolitical and will continue to play its role in the provision of traditional and spiritual leadership for the peaceful coexistence of all Nigeria,” it asserted.
