The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has said that he joined the services of the university already a wealthy man.
He was reacting to reports in a section of the social media about how he allegedly made his fortunes after being employed as a lecturer in the institution.
“Contrary to what was reported about me, I joined University of Ilorin probably as one of the very rich lecturers. I was in the US for 22 years, Saudi Arabia for 2 years and there I was more comfortable,” he said.
Abdulkareem made the clarification in Ilorin while receiving in audience the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by its chairman, Malam Umar Abdulwahab, in his office.
Abdulkareem, who stressed the importance of information, however, regretted that social media platforms were being used to propagate falsehood.
