Police in Katsina have arrested one Rabi’atu Nura, aged 28, of Mazoji village, Mai’addua LGA of Katsina State, for allegedly poisoning her step son, Kamaladdeen Nura, who was 40 days old.
The woman was said to have poisoned the child through drinking water after which he started vomiting and was rushed to the Comprehensive Health Center Maia’adua and later referred to the General Hospital Daura where he was treated and discharged. But after returning home, he later died on the same day at about 01:00hrs.
Rabi’atu said she was about giving the boy water but unknown to her, her hand was stained with rat poison.
“I never had any problem with the child’s mother, they have even forgiven but her parents are insisting on justice,” she said.
Investigation into this case is ongoing, police said, adding that Rabi’atu would soon be charged with culpable homicide.
