Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), has commissioned a N420 million flood control project in Kogi State.

The Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented by his Chief of Staff, Simon Tyungu, commissioned the project on behalf of the federal government yesterday at the project site in Koton-Karfe, headquarters of Kogi Local Government Area of the state.

Senator Akume stated that the establishment of HYPPADEC in Nigeria has come a long way in fulfilment of the government’s desire to mitigate the impact of flooding and other natural disasters across communities of its mandate.

He commended the timely completion and quality execution of the project by job specifications.

The SGF also lauded the Kogi State Government and the Koton-Karfe community for their support towards the realization of the erosion control project.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the execution of the project was in line with the commission’s proactive preventive measures against the challenge of natural disasters across the country.

The Managing Director added that the commission has made its impact felt in the construction of health institutions, rehabilitation of rural roads, construction of drainage as well as drilling of boreholes for potable water supply, amongst others in the state.

Also, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo said that the erosion control project will no doubt ease the challenge of Koton-Karfe community in tackling flooding during the wet season.

Governor Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Oyibo, praised HYPPADEC for the timely completion of the project before heavy downpours set in.
