How man stabbed commercial sex worker to death in Lagos

A 28-year-man has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a commercial sex worker to death and injuring two others who tried to stop him from fleeing the crime scene.

The crime allegedly occurred at a popular Hotel on Atan Street, Surulere, Lagos, police said.

The suspect, Babatunde Damilare, described as a regular caller at the hotel, reportedly attacked one of the commercial sex workers, one Elochukwu, with a knife after an altercation over how much to pay on Friday night, the police said.

“Babatunde, who is a frequent caller at the hotel, stabbed the lady with a knife used for cutting vegetables. He attacked two other men who tried to stop him from fleeing the spot. Both were rushed to the hospital where the woman died, while the two injured persons are critical,” the police said.

The police said Babatunde was arrested for murder and he is currently being detained at the homicide section of the State Criminal  Intelligence Investigations Department (SCIID), Panti Street, Yaba.

One of the commercial sex workers at the hotel reportedly said, “Babatunde never had the intention to pay the deceased after sex,” noting that it was not the first time the suspect had engaged himself in fracas in the hotel.

She said Babatunde, ordinarily would not have attacked the deceased with a knife if he was not prepared to carry out the attack.

The police spokesman, Bala Elkana said the incident occurred at about 11pm on Friday.

He said on the fateful day, Surulere Police Station received information that a commercial sex worker identified as Elochukwu engaged her customer, Babatunde Damilare in a fight over price.

“During the  scuffle, the said Babatunde Damilare picked a knife and stabbed Elochukwu severally in her neck which led to her death on the spot.

“The suspect was arrested by homicide detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer Surulere, CSP Adebayo Adeoya. The corpse of the deceased was evacuated and deposited at Mainland Hospital morgue Yaba for autopsy.

The suspect will be charged to court at the end of investigation,” he added.
