Young Muslim children have this year witnessed an unexpected Eid-el-fitr celebration due to the lockdown directive imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
In the past, children especially in the capital city, would have the opportunity to recreational spots, such as the Jos Zoo, to have fun.
Some of them seize the opportunity to visit friends and relations and exchange gifts.
However, all this was missing during this year’s Sallah as noticed even in the movement of vehicles around the city. The few children, who embarked on visits to relations were seen trekking due to absence of commercial vehicles.
Benue/Plateau Trust, however, reports that some children gathered at at Ali Kazaure Eid ground to celebrate the Sallah. They were engaged in activities such as riding of bicycles and horses to while away time.
Ten-year-old Abbas Ibrahim said: “This Sallah was not lively because we have been restricted. We aren’t moving freely because the state is under lockdown.”
Aisha Musa, another youngster found at the ground said she enjoyed herself despite the restriction order. “Our movement is limited but we managed to go round to greet some relatives. “
