Residents of Kaduna Metropolis have lauded the role played by civilian Joint Task Force, JTF, in maintaining peace within the state.
It was observed that members of the civilian JTF took over major streets within the metropolis during the unrest that occurred in the state since Sunday last week.
Daily Trust gathered that in most of the communities considered flash points, the civilian JTF and Vigilantes took over security situation in those areas.
These areas include Rigasa, Tudun Wada, Sabon Gari, Kakuri, Kawo, Juji community in Sabon Tasha, among others.
It was also gathered that during the crisis some Civilian JTF and Vigilantes stopped irate youth from blocking major highways to kill innocent passersby.
A Resident of Kakuri Sama’ila told Daily Trust how the JTF men maintained law and order in the community on the day the crisis began.
“Honestly, before I don’t see them as people that are serious but from that day I began to respect them with the way they handled the situation in the area.
“They went after all those boys that are known to be trouble makers in the community. Their actions really helped in returning peace in the community,” he said.
Josiah a youth leader in Juji community of Sabo Tasha told Daily Trust how he was beaten for trying to stop some Sabo Tasha Youth that invaded his community to take laws into their hands.
“Some of them physically attacked me for stopping them but myself and other members of our security team in Juji still did our best to curtail the situation and we were happy nobody was killed,” he said.
He said no security agencies came to the area during the crisis only community security members protected the area.
Another resident of Tudun Wada, Bello Idris said “The boys tried to burn a place of worship but the civilian JTF stopped them. They went after the boys and they all ran away,” he said.
According to him, the state government need to empower the JTF members to enable them compliment the security agencies.
” They know where to find those bad boys in communities. If the Government will support them I’m sure we will all be safe,” he said.
Other residents interviewed all call on Governor Nasir El’rufai to help provide incentives to members of the civilian JTF as a motivation for their role in peace building in the state.
