As a way of bringing back night life to Enugu, a hotelier in the entertainment industry, Mr Gandi Obiefule, has said he would invite famous Igbo rapper, Phyno, popular comedian Ibu (John Okafor) and other notable Nigerian artistes to perform at his newly commissioned entertainment center, Pliis Place.
Obiefule, who was formerly based abroad where he spent over thirty years doing business, said he decided to come back to Nigeria and contribute his quota to the growth of the economy.
“I have travelled wide, but I’m aware that no matter where you travel to, home is the best. When we returned to Nigeria, I first set up a big place in Abuja. But now, we want to bring this to Enugu because there is a vacuum to be filled here as far as night life is concerned,” Obiefule said.
“Night life is not what it ought to be in a place like Emily. We want to replicate in Enugu those interesting things that enabled people to let off steam after a stressful week in Abuja. We want to recreate night life here in Enugu, “ he said.
Besides entertainment, he explained that the place was also set up with colonial artworks and pictures to reminiscence historical leaders, especially those from the South-East zone of Nigeria.
Obiefule said that a curator, who knows much about Igbo history and culture, would be employed. He noted that the curator would take people around the artworks and pictures while explaining to them their history.
“We want to create a unique place, where people would not just come for relaxation and food, but will learn something new about our history and great men and women from the country, especially from the South-East. “We will have a place where people would enjoy art works and pictures of yesterday as well as also have time to reminiscence on the past.
“It will serve as a place of inspiration for young people to aspire to be great,’’ he said, adding that “we have employed up to 60 trained staff for take-off with the hope of recruiting more as the business grows in the near future. We have also provided indirect employment to artisans and farmers that are linked with our activities and food supply.
