Come this Saturday and Sunday, some 300 golfers from the six states that make up the North East will converge at the Bauchi Golf Club for the third leg of the qualifying round of the Daily Trust President Cup. The first two played off in Jos and Dutse respectively.
Ever since the moment Bauchi was picked to host the zone, a whole lot of work has been on to ensure that the course is thoroughly cleaned. Bunkers have been filled with sand and the putting browns have been smoothened. Some elevations are equally going around the tee boxes with the fairways getting close attention. The Captain of the Club and a former Commissioner of Commerce in the state, Gazali Abubakar, said members of the Club are indeed thrilled that they will be hosting such grand event in honor of the nation’s leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Our Governor who is equally a Patron of the Club is indeed thrilled that this tourney could come to us” Gazali said. “His Excellency is looking forward to the Teeing off ceremony which he shall perform and I can equally assure you that His Excellency will feature in the two- day event. Let me quickly add that we shall commission our Green project during this event. We shall showcase our 18th Green which we built to test run the project”.
The Teeing Off ceremony will happen by 10am on Saturday. Only 40 payers will qualify from the zone. The first ten players on this all nett event shall automatically qualify for the Pro-Am in Abuja between January 31 and February 3 while the remaining 30 will feature in another qualifier in Kaduna Golf Club between January 26 and 27.
