Daily Trust gathered that the return of the cattle and sheep followed the arrest of one of the rustlers, Pimnan Nanjul, by the herdsmen and days of negotiations between elders of Tarok in Kadarko and the herdsmen.
Daily Trust also gathered that the exchange, which took place yesterday, was done in the presence of the police DPO in Wase, Naomi Sani.
Shafi’i Sambo, a youth leader who was present during the exchange, said it took place around Bayan Birni, close to Wase town, adding that Nanjul was the son of former Tarok community leader in Kunbung who pleaded with Tarok elders in Kadarko to rally the stolen cattle and return them in order to gain his freedom.
Sambo said though 30 cattle were earlier stolen, 28 were returned on the excuse that two had died on the way. He said the herders did not release the apprehended rustler to the law enforcement agents for fear that he may be released without getting back their cattle.
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) in Wase confirmed the development, saying the youth intended to rustle over 100 cattle on Monday but the herders chased them.
MACBAN Secretary in Wase, Abdullahi Maikano, said he was happy the cattle and sheep were returned, calling on leaders in Wase to caution their youth against cattle rustling.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in Jos Emmanuel Abu, asked for time to confirm the development from the DPO but at the time of filing this report his number could not be reached.
