Heartland FC yesterday recorded their first win of the season as they secured a massive 3-0 victory over former champions, Plateau United in Match Day 2 of the Nigeria Professional Football League in Owerri.
The surprise result of the mid-week matches no doubt was the 2-1 away victory recorded by last season strugglers Remo Stars over Abia Warriors in Umauhia.
Abia Warriors had suffered a 0-1 loss in their opening match at Nasarawa United last Sunday.
The Nazi Millionaires as Heartland are called scored their first goal in the 60th minute when Efe Yarhere headed home a well delivered Chidiebere Ajoku cross.
In the 79th minute, Chinonso who had been a thorn in the flesh of the away side defence finally marked his home debut with a well-taken goal to make the scoreline 2-0.
And in the 87th minute, Heartland put the match beyond the former champions when Chinonso again converted from the spot after he was upended in the box.
In Lagos, MFM also recorded their first win of the season after they defeated Kwara United 2-0 at the Agege Township stadium.
The Afonja Warriors went behind after an own goal scored by Segun Alebiosu in the 49th minute.
Adeniji Kabir doubled the lead for MFM FC in the 75th minute with a beautiful header just two minutes after coming on as a substitute.
In Nnewi, it was a gloomy time for Nasarawa United who lost 0-1 to FC IfeanyiUbah.
The Nnewi millionaires who are yet to concede or lose at home against the visiting side in their last three matches snatched victory at the death when captain Chijioke Alaekwe latched on a loose ball.
The other group A fixture involving host Niger Tornadoes and Rivers United ended 1-1 at the Bako Kotangora stadium in Minna.
